The OrangeMouth Story
A few short years ago, in the space of 14 months, I lost two friends by suicide, and watched helplessly as a third battled an almost decade-long depression. It is difficult to put into words the gamut of emotions I experienced, but the most overwhelming of these was that of being impelled to act. It was then I began to develop the idea for OrangeMouth.
As I started looking at mental health organisations, I realised that many of them, rather than focusing on mental health, focused on mental illness. OrangeMouth had to be different. For the most part, people didn't talk about mental health, and when they did, it was steeped in stigma, and full of misconceptions. Products relating to mental health were books, or vitamins & supplements. Mental health was not on par with physical health. I was sure there was a different way to do things.
There was a way, and OrangeMouth is different. It is a fashion & lifestyle brand working to inspire mental health through our apparel, wellbeing products, and Mental Break Spaces. You probably haven't heard that one before!
Often when I tell people what OrangeMouth is, they seem perplexed. You're likely asking the same question they do, "What's the link between mental health and fashion?" Fashion and mental health are universal, yet still individual. They are both something we all have in common, and are at the same time, wholly idiosyncratic. One is discussed without hesitation, the other in hushed tones, behind closed doors. We're using the one we do talk about to start conversations about the one we don't.
Knowledge without action is pointless. Rather than simply raising awareness of mental health, we want to help people's mentally healthy lives become a reality. That's where the celebrating the daily yays, wellbeing products and Mental Break Spaces come in.
